Last night was interesting the stray cow that was heading to the pub yesterday afternoon decided he needed to bring 6 of his mates and a calf to camp in the campground. I went to the bathroom at about midnight and walking back through I heard this strange noise, I turned to see a cow walking towards me. I made a hasty retreat to the camper as they all decided to come say hi! The joke was that he went to the pub and met up with his mates and onthe way home got the midnight munchies so came to get a ketree and grassab (cow versions of kebabs), then we started worrying that hte maybe cows with guns and were watching for the chickens in choppers!!!!
After we got packed up we headed for Pats Gems to do a little fossicking, our Chucky (Charli) Bear was back this morning which made for another fun morning NOT
After we left Pats we did a couple of caches in Sapphire and one at the intersection of the Capricorn Highway and the road to Sapphire. Today we headed to Longreach, we have travelled 3,423.5km not including Canberra to Sydney in 9 days. Its finally feeling real and that I am actually getting to see Australia with the family. What an experience :-D
On the road to Longreach we went up to the Drummond Range lookout, this was amazing with the mountains in front of you and a mine and railway either side. Charli and I tried to get a 360 landscape pic here however my phone decided it needed to do an update and wouldn't work! We did get a geocache though
First town we passed through was Alpha, which was a small but cute town, this is where we stopped for lunch and another geocache.
From Alpha it was onto Jericho for another geocache, then onto Barcaldine.
In Barcaldine we stopped to have a look at the Tree of Knowledge Monument, a visit to the chemist in case Chucky Bear returned and another 2 quick geocaches. For those who don't know this is where the Labor Party was formed, where the Shearers Protest happened and where the Pastrolist Union was formed, rather a special place to visit. The tree was poisoned a few years back so they have only the trunk and root ball but it has been preserved in a beautiful shelter which as wooden wind chimes that hang in the shape of the original tree. They have also preserved the root ball under glass panels so that you can still see it.
After Barcladine was Ilfracombe where the main street is lined with historic tractors, vehicles and farm machinery I could have spent hours here just photographing all the equipment. We grabbed another geocache and I finally managed to get proof of the road trains.

Today we seen 6 Camels in a paddock, 2 emus on the side of the road, 1 big goanna on the road, numerous wedgetail eagles (I was in heaven) feeding on the roadkill, lots of 2 & 3 trailer road trains and a 4 trailer road train.
27kms later we arrived in Longreach and found the Tourist Park, setup the tent did some washing, found a supermarket to stock up on lunch suppliers and then returned to camp for dinner and a relax.
Tomorrow we visit the Stockmans Hall of Fame and the Qantas Museum before heading 1 and a half hours down the road to Winton.
NIGHT ALL :-)
