Day 6 - Tuesday 4/04/2017

Today was a quiet day in the scheme of things but tonight well let's just say things took another turn.......

We have had to change our plans and miss Rockhampton. We are now going to Sapphire through Gayndah, Banana and an overnight stop in Jericho.

We were treated this morning to scrambled eggs made with eggs fresh from the hens house thanks to Roos Aunty.

I was then treated to a ride along the Hervey Bay Esplanade in an original Jaguar E Type, it was a wonderful ride I couldn't stop smiling.

We left Hervey Bay just after 12pm and started to make our way to Bundaberg which was out next stop for the night and hopefully a your of the Rum Distillery. The last tour started at 2pm and we walked in the door at 1:59pm (phew that was close).

The tour was great, the smell of molasses as you walked through the gate was amazing, 1 hour later we finished the tour and went to the bar for tastings. Sean and Roo loved this party of the tour and surprisingly enough I think I have found a rum that I could actually drink.

We left the tour and headed for the Big 4 Cane Village which was where we calling home for the night.

Enter the dreaded twist........

Charlotte jumped out and decided she was doing the jockey wheel on the trailer, no problems however she left everything attached to the car, I noticed and stopped her. She proceeded with the job while Sean and I set up the tent. I came back around to the front of the trailer and Charlotte had disconnected the plugs and chain however put the jockey wheel down as far as it would go with the trailer still hitched to the car... Of course things were straining. No problems Mum to the rescue....
I opened the hitch and started winding the jockey wheel up a forgot that when we moved the spare wheel it makes the turning off the handle difficult. I whacked my little finger on the spare wheel and ripped the nail completely of the nail bed (ouch) I said a few fire trucks put a band-aid on and kept going.

About an hour later I went to the bathroom to have a shower and clean the finger so we can dress it properly......Ummmm nail caught on clothing and has now ripped out of the skin inside the finger and is sitting on top of the skin outside and is only held on by inside finger by the smallest amount (yes a few more fire trucks were given!!!!!)

At some silly hour Sean and I pack up and head for the Bundaberg Hospital (not where I wanted to be!). We finally get triaged and sent for an x-ray (waste of fecking time) a couple of hours later the doctor takes me into the room and asks me off it hurts when he touches it (deeeeerrrrrr). It's decided that I need a local antiseptic and to have the day placed back under the skin....2 needles in the base of the finger and a few minutes later it starts to go numb. Enter the doctor with a big needle and decides that he needs to lift the skin and reinsert the nail. Feck me that hurt, antiseptic didn't go far enough down the finger and I can still feel everything.

2 more needles in the middle of the finger and 2 in the top of the finger and the head doctor jokes he has enough drug in there for a ship........ Minutes later the doctor and head doctor return for by a number of spectators. I'm completely oblivious as I look away and the head doctor years the nail completely out of the finger and then reinserts and glues it down with super glue (ok maybe not super glue but the medical version of it)

10:30pm we return to camp and head to bed for the night with me grateful for the antiseptic and dreading the moment it wears off.
